Fast charging cables that support Power Delivery 3.0 or higher often include "PD3.0", "PD3.1" or "PPS" in their markings. Qualcomm Quick Charge compatible cables sometimes display the QC logo. Their absence is a strong hint that the cable is intended for slow charging only.
The connector end and pin layout
USB-C connectors all look the same on the outside, but the pin configuration inside can differ. Premium cables populate all twenty-four pins, while budget options often leave several pins unconnected, limiting both charging speed and data transfer. You cannot see the pins directly, but you can usually infer their presence from the build quality of the connector shell.
A solid, well-moulded connector with a firm click when plugged in is a good sign. Loose-fitting plugs that wobble in the socket usually contain fewer internal wires and a cheaper chipset. Big W and Target often stock a mix of both, so testing the fit before buying is worthwhile.

Cables longer than one metre often include an eMarker chip, a small electronic identifier that tells the charger and device what the cable can safely handle. The chip itself is hidden inside the connector, but its presence is usually advertised on the box. Without an eMarker, longer cables may default to lower charging speeds for safety reasons.

Where possible, choose the shortest cable that fits your needs.

If the price feels too good to be true on a 100W cable from a no-name brand, treat it as a red flag rather than a bargain.
Heat is another giveaway. A cable that warms noticeably during a charging session is pushing more resistance than it should, which usually points to thin internal wiring or a missing eMarker chip. Swap it out before it damages a battery or degrades the charger port on an expensive handset.
